Softspoken is one part of an ongoing series that I have decided to call Fire Studies. They are pictures of fire that have been done with camera motion blur in black and white. There is no digital manipulation of this series, other than dust spotting, as fire gives off ash which has a tendency to land on my camera lens.

 

To me Softspoken holds images that are representative. It was striking at first when I viewed them and saw what looks like a person in a dress in Wall, or a woman with her head tilted downward in Madonna with a Head Dress. Some of them hit me like a ton of bricks when I first viewed them. Some were very apparent to me, and some came to me over time. Softspoken is  the most interesting series in Fire Studies because what I see, many others do not, and what others see, I often do not.
